FAQ

Does my cat require a vaccination certificate before checking into Papamoa Kitty Cabins?

Yes.

We at Papamoa Kitty Cabins need to make sure your cat is healthy before arriving so that we can ensure the ongoing health of all cats who stay in our cabins

It is code of practice that Papamoa Kitty Cabins receives a document from your vet specifying that your cat has had the standard NZ feline vaccine within the past twelve months and at least 1 week prior to their stay.

If your cat has not been vaccinated, please keep in mind it will take at least two weeks for full immunity to take place after vaccination.

We recommend doing a flea and worm treatment before staying also if not up to date.

Do I need to supply food for my cat?

No, we will provide food from our quality range, but you can opt to bring your own if you prefer.

When you check-in, we will ask you about food preferences and try our best to ensure cats receive the food they are accustomed to.

Papamoa Kitty Cabins is also very accommodating to those who prefer to bring along their own food. It will be stored in a fridge or freezer as required, plus you receive a $2 a-day discount if you do supply your own food.

What if my cat is sick or gets sick while we are away?

We regularly check and record the health of guests by monitoring their behaviour, appetite and litter usage.

When you check-in, we will ensure we have your best contact details for while you are away, and the contact details of your regular vet to keep on hand in case of an emergency. We will be in touch with you straight away if your cat begins to show any signs of being unwell.

If we are unable to reach you, your cat will be taken to our preferred vet, Coastal Vets Papamoa.

Can I come to inspect Papamoa Kitty Cabins?

We are more than happy to give you a grand tour of our purpose-built facility anytime during our pick up and drop off times. Please ring ahead to let me know you would like to pop in as my hours vary.

How will I know if my cat is enjoying their holiday while I’m away?

You can have peace of mind knowing that your cat is enjoying their stay at our cat cabins! We will send you happy snaps via email or social media and keep you posted on what they have been up to.

My cat is on medication, is this ok?

Hopefully it will be, just contact us to discuss your cat’s illness before booking. As Papamoa Kitty Cabins is unattended overnight there are some conditions that are unable to be accommodated for.

Do you accept diabetic cats that are on insulin?

Unfortunately, we are unable to as Papamoa Kitty Cabins is unattended overnight. We recommend attending a cattery that is attached to a vet clinic.

Apart from vaccination are there any other requirements?

There are some requirements to ensure the health and safety of all our special guests at Papamoa Kitty Cabins.

To make sure no kitties get ‘into trouble’, your cat:

  • Must be desexed
  • Must be at least 3 months of age

In addition:

  • Worm and flea treatment is recommended 5-10 days before boarding. Please note that all cats found with fleas, flea dirt or worms will be treated at their owner’s expense.
  • Carriers must be used to transport your cat to and from Papamoa Kitty Cabins. Traffic can be busy outside our cattery and we do not want them to escape between your car and our front door!

Can we bring along my cat’s bed?

Papamoa Kitty Cabins supplies all guests with luxurious bedding, blankets, scratching poles, toys and feeding bowls but you can definitely bring your own.

We also recommend bringing an article of clothing with your scent on it as this has been known to relax and ease cats into their stay. Your pet’s favourite toys, basket or blankets may help to ensure they are relaxed during their stay.

Can my cat go outside?

Our facility is a fully enclosed warehouse building and your cat will not be removed from the premises during their stay (unless it’s for a vet visit). However, our roller door is open during the day to allow fresh air in and for cats to hear and feel the outdoors.

Our building is north facing and the sun will stream in every day. An essential for most cats.

We will provide indoor plants, cat herbs or grass that are cat-safe and an interesting, fun play space for all ages of cats.

When do I need to pay?

The Papamoa Kitty Cabins team asks that your balance be paid before your arrival via Internet banking ANZ 06-0493-0655979-00 cats name as the reference.

We also accept cash / eftpos on arrival.

Rest assured that there are no hidden costs as we don’t charge extra for peak periods, brushing, administering medication or looking after senior cats.

What happens if I need to pick up my cat earlier than planned?

That’s ok! Any remaining pre-paid days will be placed in credit for your next visit.

Do you have heating and/or cooling?

Our building is air-conditioned and the inside temperature is monitored so that the building is kept as a safe and ideal temperature at all times.

Do you cuddle the cats and give them attention?

Yes! Even the tricky ones!

We are cat and animal lovers with a wide range of animal backgrounds, experiences and qualifications. We provide care, watch behaviours, monitor eating and ensure they are doing well during their stay. The very best parts of our day are spent with your cat: we pat, we brush, we chat, we give chin rubs and head bumps, we play with them and their toys, and whatever else makes them happy!
